A 50-year-old Boise man was arrested after he allegedly stole his mother’s vehicle and then engaged in a high-speed police pursuit through three Southeast Idaho counties on Friday night.
David A. Jones has been charged with felony eluding and misdemeanor driving without privileges.
According to the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office, Jones’ mother reported that her vehicle was stolen in Boise but she later declined to press charges against her son for the theft.
The pursuit then continued into the Chubbuck and Pocatello area of northern Bannock County before Jones allegedly drove the stolen vehicle onto Interstate 86 and headed into Power County.
Sheriff’s deputies from Bingham, Bannock and Power counties as well as Chubbuck police and Idaho State Police were all involved in the pursuit.
Officers attempted multiple times during the chase to use spike strips, but it was the Power County sheriff’s deputies who successfully punctured the tires of the vehicle.
Once the vehicle was disabled on Interstate 86 east of American Falls at around 10:10 p.m., police said Jones stopped and surrendered to the officers without further incident.
The chase did not result in any wrecks or injuries.
Jones has been booked into the Bingham County Jail.
